This verse in the King James

King James wording
Again Esther spake unto Hatach, and gave him commandment unto Mordecai;

Esther’s charge travels through Hatach, making the messenger the path by which her voice reaches Mordecai.

A voice can reach beyond where its speaker stands. Esther speaks to Hatach, then charges him toward Mordecai; her words move through another person.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

This undoes the belief that a voice has no reach unless its speaker stands face-to-face with its hearer.

וַתְּצַוֵּהוּ

vatetzavvehu

GROWS FROM

צוה

To command or charge; to give direction as an order.

“commanded him” in this verse is vatetzavvehu. Esther charges Hatach, with Mordecai as the message’s destination. This root’s family spans a spoken command and a mitzvah, revealing that the exchange is not mere conversation: her words carry direction through another person.

ALSO GROWS

mitzvah: Commandment or instruction.

מִצְוָה

The same root names instruction that carries an obligation, echoing Esther’s charge to Hatach.

tsav: Command or precept.

צַו

This branch keeps the force of an order visible in Esther’s directed message.

וַתֹּאמֶר

vatomer

GROWS FROM

אמר

To say or utter.

“spake” in this verse is vatomer. The verse moves from Esther’s saying to her charge: speech becomes directed action. This root’s family includes both utterance and decree, keeping spoken words and authoritative messages close together.

ALSO GROWS

imrah: Utterance, saying, or word.

אִמְרָה

Esther’s words are the beginning of the message that Hatach carries onward.

ma'amar: Saying or decree.

מַאֲמָר

This branch shows how speech can take the force of an instruction, as Esther’s does here.

A message crosses distance through a trusted messenger, carrying speech into response.

And Moses told Aaron all the words of the LORD who had sent him, and all the signs which he had commanded him.
Exodus 4:28 · SDVMoses carries the words and commands he has received to Aaron, so the message moves through a person.
Then Jesus went with them. And when he was no longer far from the house, the commander of a hundred sent friends to him, saying, Lord, do not wear yourself raw, for I do not reach far enough for you to come in under my roof.
Luke 7:6 · SDVThe centurion sends friends to carry his words to Jesus across the remaining distance.
So Mordecai crossed over and did all that Esther had commanded him.
Esther 4:17 · SDV

The same root, ⁨צוה⁩, returns: here Esther’s charge has reached Mordecai and becomes his action. The repeated root traces the message from its handoff to its response.
