This verse in the King James

King James wording
As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle.

Each creature bears all four faces, so the vision’s unity holds difference together rather than reducing it.

You meet a vision in which each living being bears a human face, a lion’s face, an ox’s face, and an eagle’s face. Human, wild, working, and skyward forms remain distinct, yet each is held within the same living presence.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It unsettles the assumption that each creature has one face while the other forms belong to separate beings: each of the four carries all four.

פָּנִים

panim

GROWS FROM

פנה

to turn, turn toward

Panim can mean face or presence, and it is connected to panah, to turn toward. The repeated faces are more than features: they suggest several orientations of presence, all belonging to each creature.

ALSO GROWS

panah: to turn, turn toward

פָּנָה

A face is where a being turns toward what is before it; this root brings orientation into the vision.

panim: face, presence

פָּנִים

The same word can name a visible face or someone’s presence, opening the creatures’ many faces toward the idea of presence in several forms.

Visions of divine presence gather distinct human and animal forms into one living tableau.

Each one had four faces. The first face was the face of a cherub, the second the face of a man, the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle.
Ezekiel 10:14 · SDVThe vision again gives each being several faces, gathering distinct forms within a single creature.
The first living creature is like a lion, and the second like a calf, and the third has the face of a human, and the fourth is like a flying eagle.
Revelation 4:7 · SDVThe same four forms appear together around the throne, making the living tableau visible in another vision.
And he said, My face will go with you, and I will give you rest.
Exodus 33:14 · SDV

The Hebrew word translated presence here is panim, the same word translated face in Ezekiel. That shared word lets the faces open beyond features into presence: each creature holds several orientations of the living world in view.
