This verse in the King James

King James wording
Lo, when the wall is fallen, shall it not be said unto you, Where is the daubing wherewith ye have daubed it?

The wall’s collapse turns its coating into evidence: what looked like protection must answer for what it actually held together.

A reassuring surface can keep a cracked structure looking whole for a time. When it falls, the question turns toward the coating and the assurance it carried: what could this covering actually hold?

WHAT THIS UNDOES

A convincing appearance is not proof that what it covers is sound.

נָפְלָה

naphlah

GROWS FROM

נפל

⁨נפל⁩ (naphal): to fall, drop, or come down.

“fallen” in this verse is naphlah. The wall’s fall is the moment of exposure: the coating cannot claim success merely because it once looked intact. The ⁨נפל⁩ family names falling as a state and as an event, bringing the collapse and its visible result under the same seed.

ALSO GROWS

nofel: falling

נֹפֵל

The same root can describe what is in the process of falling, making the collapse more than a finished event.

nefilah: a fall; falling

נְפִילָה

The noun makes the movement itself nameable as an event, matching the moment the coated wall gives way.

A covering cannot make an unsound structure withstand the moment it is exposed.

Therefore this crookedness will be to you like a falling breach, bulging in a high wall, whose breaking comes suddenly, in a blink.
Isaiah 30:13 · SDVThe image of a bulging wall makes the hidden break visible just before the structure gives way.
And the rain came down, and the rivers came, and the winds breathed and fell against that house, and it fell, and great was its fall.
Matthew 7:27 · SDVThe storm reveals what the house’s construction could not sustain.
So will I tear down the wall that you have daubed with tasteless plaster, and bring it down to the ground, so that its foundation shall be laid bare, and it shall fall, and you shall be finished in its midst; and you shall perceive that I am the LORD.
Ezekiel 13:14 · SDVThe wall’s fall uncovers its foundation and exposes the coating that concealed it.
So will I tear down the wall that you have daubed with tasteless plaster, and bring it down to the ground, so that its foundation shall be laid bare, and it shall fall, and you shall be finished in its midst; and you shall perceive that I am the LORD.
Ezekiel 13:14 · SDV

The word translated “fall” here comes from the same Hebrew root ⁨נפל⁩ (naphal) as “fallen” in verse 12. Verse 14 shows what that fall reveals: the foundation beneath the coating.
