This verse in the King James

King James wording
Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.

The host’s power is pictured as a covering: it advances like weather until the land lies beneath it.

The verse places an invading multitude before you as a storm that spreads until it covers the land. Its scale turns the landscape itself into the measure of the threat: what advances is visible, and what it covers is hidden from view.

לְכַסּוֹת

lekhasot

GROWS FROM

כסה

Cover, conceal, or spread over.

“to cover the land” in this verse is lekhasot. In this verse, ⁨לְכַסּוֹת⁩ (lekhasot), “to cover,” makes the cloud more than scenery: the invading host spreads over the land like a covering. The root holds both the act of covering and the covering itself, so the image measures the army by how much it obscures.

ALSO GROWS

kissāh: He covered.

כִּסָּה

This verb form shows the root ⁨כסה⁩ in the act itself: a surface is covered by what spreads over it.

mikhseh: A covering.

מִכְסֶה

This noun from ⁨כסה⁩ names the covering itself, joining the action in the verse to the thing that lies over the land.

A covering can make a whole landscape disappear beneath an overwhelming force.

For they covered the eye of the whole land, so that it went dark. They ate all the grass of the land and all the fruit of the trees that the hail had left, and no green remained in the trees, or in the grass of the field, through all the land of Egypt.
Exodus 10:15 · SDVThe locusts cover the land so completely that the landscape is darkened and stripped of its remaining growth.
And the waters grew mightier and mightier upon the earth, and all the high mountains that were under all the heavens were covered.
Genesis 7:19 · SDVThe covering waters reach even the high hills, making the scale of the flood visible through what it overwhelms.
For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and thick cloud shall cover the peoples; but the LORD shall rise upon you, and his weight shall appear upon you.
Isaiah 60:2 · SDVDarkness covers the earth before the LORD rises into view, setting concealment and appearing against each other.
For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and thick cloud shall cover the peoples; but the LORD shall rise upon you, and his weight shall appear upon you.
Isaiah 60:2 · SDV

Isaiah uses the same Hebrew root, ⁨כסה⁩ (kasah), for darkness covering the earth, then sets the LORD’s arising against that covering. The shared root lets Ezekiel’s cloud and Isaiah’s darkness meet in the same image: what covers the land can conceal what is coming into view.
