This verse in the King James

King James wording
Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The LORD God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.

The house is the purpose inside the king’s power: kingdoms are given, then authority is appointed to serve wholeness in Jerusalem.

Power arrives as something received and placed under a charge; the house at Jerusalem is the work named within it. For you now, the verse presents authority as capable of serving restoration and wholeness rather than merely expanding itself.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that power belongs to its holder by right and exists only to enlarge that holder.

פָּקַד

paqad

GROWS FROM

פקד

Attend to, appoint, muster, or entrust with responsibility.

“put the charge in my hands” in this verse is paqad. Here, ⁨פָּקַד⁩ (paqad, appoint or entrust) makes the charge an assignment of care: the ruler is appointed to a work beyond his own reign. Its branches connect oversight with mustering, gathering authority toward restoration.

ALSO GROWS

paqīd: Overseer or officer.

פְּקִיד

The branch shows that a charge places someone in a role of responsibility.

pequddah: Appointment, charge, or oversight.

פְּקֻדָּה

It makes visible the entrusted task carried by the verb in this verse.

נָתַן

natan

GROWS FROM

נתן

Give, set, or place.

“has given me” in this verse is natan. The same root can describe giving and placing: the kingdoms are placed in the king’s hands, and the charge gives that power a direction. Authority is presented as received with a purpose, not as self-originating.

ALSO GROWS

mattan: Gift or present.

מַתָּן

This branch brings out the received character of the kingdoms named in the verse.

mattanah: Gift or present.

מַתָּנָה

It echoes that what the king holds is given to him, not made by him.

יְרוּשָׁלַיִם

Yerushalayim

GROWS FROM

שלם

Whole or complete; the root carried in ⁨שָׁלוֹם⁩ (shalom, wholeness).

Heard through ⁨שָׁלוֹם⁩ (shalom, wholeness), Jerusalem gives the building’s destination a deeper resonance: the commissioned house stands in a place whose name evokes wholeness. The verse locates received power in service of that restoration.

ALSO GROWS

shalom: Wholeness.

שָׁלוֹם

It names the quality suggested by the destination of the building work.

shalem: Whole or complete.

שָׁלֵם

This branch carries the same root sense into the idea of restoration.

What is received becomes a charge to establish a dwelling in the direction of wholeness.

But who am I, and what is my people, that we should hold the strength to offer so willingly after this sort? For all things come from you, and from your hand have we given to you.
1 Chronicles 29:14 · SDVWhat is offered is first received from God, as the kingdoms in Ezra are given before the building is commissioned.
Who says of Cyrus, "He is my shepherd, and he will make whole all my delight," saying to Jerusalem, "You will be built," and to the temple, "Its foundation will be laid."
Isaiah 44:28 · SDVThe charge to build the house appears as a purpose directed toward Jerusalem and its restoration.
You also, as living stones, are built up into a house of breath, a set-apart priesthood, to carry up sacrifices of breath, well received by God through Jesus, the Anointed One.
1 Peter 2:5 · SDVThe dwelling takes shape as people built together into a house, extending the pattern beyond a single structure.
Then the heads of the fathers of Judah and Benjamin rose up, and the priests, and the Levites, with all whose breath God had roused, to go up and build the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem.
Ezra 1:5 · SDV

The root ⁨בנה⁩ (banah, build) carries the work from the king’s commission into the people who rise to build. Their ⁨רוּחַ⁩ (ruach, breath) is raised as the work takes shape, joining inward stirring with outward rebuilding.
