Selah Decoded Version The Selah Decoded Version renders what the Hebrew and Greek words meant to the people who first heard them.

This verse in the King James

King James wording
And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the LORD am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.

The repeated word “flesh” links the oppressor’s self-consuming violence to the whole embodied world that comes to know the LORD as deliverer.

The verse places the violence against you under the LORD’s judgment: your oppressors eat their own flesh and drink their own blood. The LORD is your deliverer, bringing you out, and your redeemer, reclaiming you; all flesh comes to know who acts.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The lie that oppressive power can only consume you and will never answer for what it does.

מוֹשִׁיעֵךְ

moshi'ekh

GROWS FROM

ישע

Deliver; bring out from constriction toward spaciousness.

“Deliverer” in this verse is moshi'ekh. The LORD is not named as a distant rescuer: this word names the one delivering you out of constriction. Its family also names deliverance itself, so the title and the act share one root.

ALSO GROWS

yeshuah: Deliverance

יְשׁוּעָה

The same root names the act of being brought out, not only the one who brings you out.

hoshia: He delivered

הוֹשִׁיעַ

The verb makes deliverance an action unfolding, which gives this title its force.

גֹאֲלֵךְ

go'aleikh

GROWS FROM

גאל

Reclaim, recover, or restore what belongs to one.

“Redeemer” in this verse is go'aleikh. The first title names being brought out; this one names being reclaimed, with the sense of a close relative acting to restore what is theirs. Together, deliverance and reclamation hold rescue and restoration in one line.

ALSO GROWS

go'el: Reclaimer; kinsman-redeemer

גֹּאֵל

This branch shows redemption as someone stepping in to reclaim what oppression has taken.

ge'ullah: Reclamation; redemption

גְּאֻלָּה

The related noun names the restoration that the title promises.

וְיָדְעוּ

weyad'u

GROWS FROM

ידע

Know, recognize, perceive through encounter.

“perceive” in this verse is weyad'u. Knowing here follows an act: all flesh recognizes the LORD through this deliverance and judgment. The root holds knowing close to encounter, rather than mere information.

ALSO GROWS

de'ah: Knowledge; understanding

דֵּעָה

This related word carries the root’s sense of recognition and understanding.

madda: Knowledge

מַדָּע

The same root also names knowledge itself, linking the world’s recognition to what it perceives.

The LORD makes deliverance publicly knowable: oppressor and nations alike see whose action overturns domination.

And the Egyptians will perceive that I am the LORD, when I show my weight upon the Great House, upon his chariots and upon his horsemen.
Exodus 14:18 · SDVEven those aligned with the oppressor come to know the LORD through the collapse of coercive power.
The LORD makes his deliverance known. He uncovers his alignment before the eyes of the nations.
Psalm 98:2 · SDVThe LORD makes deliverance visible among the nations, echoing Isaiah’s movement from rescue to public recognition.
Who will not stand in awe of you, Lord, and give weight to your name? For you alone are set apart, and all the nations come and bow down before your face, for your judgments are made visible.
Revelation 15:4 · SDVHere judgment is made visible to all nations, widening Isaiah’s “all flesh” horizon.
Turn your face to me, and be delivered, all the edges of the earth, for I am God, and there is none else.
Isaiah 45:22 · SDV

“Saved” shares the ⁨ישע⁩ (yasha) root with Isaiah’s “Saviour,” tying the LORD’s identity to the act of bringing people out. Its address to all the ends of the earth opens “all flesh” beyond one people, giving the same deliverance a world-wide scope.
