King James wording
King James Version
The LORD spake also unto me again, saying,THE KEY
The Hebrew frames the LORD’s speech as something added, so what has already been spoken does not exhaust what can be said.
THE MEANING
The LORD speaks to you again; the word before you is not necessarily the last word. You stand at the threshold of a further saying, before its content unfolds.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It undoes the belief that a word already received exhausts what can still be spoken.
THE ROOT
וַיֹּסֶף
wayyosef
GROWS FROM
יסף
To add or increase; by extension, to continue by adding more.
The Hebrew uses וַיֹּסֶף (wayyosef, “and he added”) before “to speak,” framing this moment as speech added to what has already reached you. English renders it “spake also ... again,” while the root lets you hear more being added.
ALSO GROWS
yāsaph: To add or increase.
יָסַף
This is the verbal seed behind the added speech in the verse.
Yosef: “He adds”; Joseph.
יוֹסֵף
The name Joseph carries the same root of addition, showing how the seed appears in both a name and an action.
THE PATTERN
An earlier word does not exhaust the speaking; another word can be added.
And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak, for your servant hears and responds.I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot carry them now.God, who in many portions and in many ways spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets. In these last days he has spoken to us in a Son, whom he set as heir of all things, through whom he also made the ages.THE THREAD
And she called his name Joseph, may he add, and said, The LORD shall add to me another son.Joseph is יוֹסֵף (Yosef, “he adds”), from יסף (yāsaph, “to add”). The same root names the act in Genesis and frames Isaiah’s verse as further speech added to what has already been spoken.
