This verse in the King James

King James wording
And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor the principal of the flock to escape.

The verse says the possibility of flight itself vanishes, so even the flock’s leaders have no refuge in their rank.

The verse speaks now of a reckoning in which the shepherds and the flock’s leading figures have no way out. Their position offers no refuge; even those expected to guide the flock are exposed to the same inescapability.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that standing at the head of the flock guarantees an escape from what comes upon it.

מָנוֹס

mānōs

GROWS FROM

נוס

Flee; escape.

⁨מָנוֹס⁩ (mānōs) names flight or refuge, the possibility of getting clear. Built from ⁨נוס⁩ (nūs), “to flee,” it makes “no way to flee” more than a blocked route: the very opening for escape is gone.

ALSO GROWS

nānūs: We flee; we will flee.

נָנוּס

This form in Isaiah 30:16 carries the same three root consonants in the words “we will flee,” making Jeremiah’s vanished escape the opposite of an attempted flight.

menusah: Flight; escape.

מְנוּסָה

This noun in Isaiah 30:16 shares all three root consonants and names the flight that Jeremiah’s verse says is no longer available.

When judgment closes in, speed, status, and strength cannot create a place of escape.

Therefore flight shall lose its way from the swift, and the strong shall not grip his strength, neither shall the mighty slip free with his living soul.
Amos 2:14 · SDVThe swift lose their flight and the mighty cannot escape, matching the vanished route named in Jeremiah.
But the eyes of the wicked run out, and escape loses its way from them, and their hope is the pouring out of the living soul.
Job 11:20 · SDVEscape fails, and even the hope of escape collapses.
And the kings of the earth, and the great ones, and the chief captains, and the rich, and the strong, and every servant and every free one hide themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains.
Revelation 6:15 · SDVKings and powerful people seek hiding, showing that rank offers no shelter when the reckoning reaches everyone.
Therefore flight shall lose its way from the swift, and the strong shall not grip his strength, neither shall the mighty slip free with his living soul.
Amos 2:14 · SDV

Amos uses ⁨מָנוֹס⁩ (mānōs), “flight” or “escape,” the same Hebrew word at the heart of “no way to flee” here. The swift lose their flight and the mighty cannot deliver themselves: the exit itself disappears.
