This verse in the King James

King James wording
And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the LORD:

The speaker is restrained from entering the house, yet his words are already moving through Baruch.

The verse holds bodily restriction and active speech together: the speaker cannot enter the LORD’s house, yet he can still entrust words to Baruch. A closed threshold does not make the message vanish; it changes the voice and route by which it reaches people.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that a barred entrance means the message has no path. The speaker’s access is stopped while his words can still travel through Baruch.

עָצוּר

ʿāṣūr

GROWS FROM

עצר

To restrain, hold back, or stop.

The Hebrew describes the speaker as being held back from a specific entrance; it does not say that he has become silent. The same root can describe rain being withheld or the heavens being shut up, revealing restraint as something held back rather than erased.

ALSO GROWS

ʿāṣar: To restrain, hold back, or stop.

עָצַר

This verb is also used when the heavens are shut up against rain, showing the root’s sense of a force being withheld.

ʿaṣeret: A solemn assembly or convocation.

עֲצֶרֶת

This related word names a gathering or convening, extending the root’s range from holding something back to holding people together.

A constrained messenger can still transmit the word through another voice.

Therefore go, and call out from the roll the words of the LORD which you have written from my mouth, in the ears of the people in the LORD's house on the fast day, and you shall also call them out in the ears of all Judah who come out of their cities.
Jeremiah 36:6 · SDVBaruch carries the words into the house and to Judah while Jeremiah remains unable to enter.
In this I bear ill, even unto bonds, as one who works ill; but the word of God is not bound.
2 Timothy 2:9 · SDVThe messenger is bound, but the word continues beyond the messenger’s confinement.
So those who were scattered passed through every place, bringing the good news of the word.
Acts 8:4 · SDVDisplacement redirects the messengers across new places without stopping their message.
When heaven is held shut, and there is no rain, because they have missed the mark against you; if they pray toward this place, and extend their hands to your name, and turn from their falling short, when you bend them low.
1 Kings 8:35 · SDV

The Hebrew behind shut up here comes from the same root, ⁨עצר⁩ (ʿāṣar), as Jeremiah’s ⁨עָצוּר⁩ (ʿāṣūr). In one verse the heavens are held back; in the other the speaker is held back, so the root names restraint across different kinds of closure.
