King James wording
King James Version
For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walketh upon a snare.THE KEY
His own feet become the means of his sending, so the steps carrying him forward lead him into a trap.
THE MEANING
Your own path can carry you into a snare already lying beneath your steps. The verse holds both forces together: the net is present, and the movement itself completes the entanglement.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The lie this undoes is that entanglement always arrives from outside; sometimes a person’s own course carries them into what catches them.
THE ROOT
שֻׁלַּח
shullach
GROWS FROM
שלח
Send forth, release, let go.
The word behind “cast” carries the sense of sending forth or releasing. Here that movement takes a grim direction: his own feet become the means by which he is sent into capture, placing release language beside entrapment.
ALSO GROWS
shilluaḥ: Sending, release, dismissal.
שִׁלּוּחַ
This branch keeps the movement of the root explicit: something is sent away or released, as the person in the verse is sent into the net.
Shiloach: Sent; the name of the sent waters.
שִׁילֹחַ
The root can describe what is sent outward to restore sight, showing that sending can carry restoration as well as danger.
shulchan: Table; provision set out.
שֻׁלְחָן
The table carries the root’s sense of provision extended or set out, another direction for what is sent forth.
THE PATTERN
A path a person sets in motion can become the very snare that catches them.
He digs a pit and hollows it out, and falls into the pit he works. His own crookednesses catch the wicked, and he is held by the cords of his falling short.Do not be led astray. God is not sneered at. For whatever a person sows, that also he reaps.THE THREAD
And afterward Moses and Aaron went in and told the Great House, Thus says the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may dance a feast to me in the wilderness.“Let my people go” uses the same root, שלח (shalach): send forth, release. In Job, a person is sent into a net by his own feet; here, release opens a way out of bondage.
