This verse in the King James

King James wording
Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.

The catch does not replace the provision already waiting; Jesus brings what they caught into it.

Provision is already present, and what you have gathered still has a place within it. The catch is brought into the scene rather than erased by what is waiting.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

This undoes the belief that receiving provision makes your own effort irrelevant: the catch is still welcomed into what is already provided.

ἐνέγκατε

enenkate

GROWS FROM

φερ-

carry, bear, bring; the Greek verb stem of ⁨φέρω⁩ (pherō)

⁨ἐνέγκατε⁩ is the irregular aorist imperative of ⁨φέρω⁩, “carry, bear, bring.” Its verb family appears in ⁨προσφέρω⁩, “bring toward, offer”: bringing carries something into relation with another. The fish are not left as a private catch; they are carried into provision already waiting.

ALSO GROWS

prospherō: bring toward; offer

προσφέρω

Its ⁨φερ⁩ consonants show bringing as carrying something toward another, as the catch is brought to the waiting meal.

anapherō: carry up; bring up

ἀναφέρω

It shares the ⁨φερ⁩ stem and keeps the sense of carrying something into a new place or relation.

Provision becomes shared when what is already at hand is brought into the gathering.

And there came a man from Baalshalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley, and fresh ears of grain in their husks. And he said, Give to the people, that they may eat.
2 Kings 4:42 · SDVWhat is brought to the man of God becomes food set before the gathered people.
There is a lad here, who has five barley loaves, and two small fishes, but what are they among so many?
John 6:9 · SDVThe food already at hand enters the crowd’s meal as Jesus takes and distributes it.
He said, Carry them here to me.
Matthew 14:18 · SDV

Matthew uses the same Greek verb family, ⁨φέρω⁩, “carry, bring,” in Jesus’ command about the loaves and fishes. Here the fish from the net are brought to the meal; in both scenes, what is at hand enters shared provision.
