This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

The verse places fear in the observer’s response to visible wisdom, not in the wisdom itself.

When you see another person’s clear, effective conduct, recognition and fear can arise together. Here, Saul’s fear appears as David’s wisdom comes into view; that fear alone does not show that David’s conduct is dangerous.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

Fear does not by itself prove that the person feared is dangerous; here it rises in response to David’s wise conduct.

“behaved himself very wisely” in this verse is maśkîl. The same root connects insight with intelligent action and success. Saul sees not just a clever thought, but perceptive conduct made effective and visible, and that sight awakens his fear.
