This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

The messengers sent to seize David are released into the prophetic speech they were sent to interrupt.

The scene speaks now wherever a command sends someone to silence what is speaking: the one sent can become a participant in that speech. Each repeated attempt exposes the limit of the sender’s control over what happens once the messenger enters the scene.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

A command guarantees that the people sent will remain extensions of the sender’s will.

וַיִּשְׁלַח

wayyishlach

GROWS FROM

שלח

shalach

To send, send forth, release, or let go.

“sent” in this verse is wayyishlach. The root holds sending and releasing together. The messengers are dispatched, but their arrival releases them into speech their sender cannot script.

ALSO GROWS

shallach: Send away; release; let go.

שַׁלַּח

The same root gives the command “Let my people go,” showing that sending can carry the force of release.

shilluach: Sending away; dismissal.

שִׁלּוּחַ

This branch makes the release within “sent” visible: the messengers are sent out of the sender’s hand and into the scene.

וַיִּתְנַבְּאוּ

vayyitnabbe'u

GROWS FROM

נבא

naba

To speak prophetically; to utter prophecy.

The root behind “prophesied” also forms the words for “prophet” and “prophecy,” joining the speaker, the act, and the utterance in one word-family. These messengers do not merely encounter prophecy; they enter its speaking.

ALSO GROWS

navi: Prophet; one who speaks prophetically.

נָבִיא

The messengers become speakers in the same prophetic current, rather than remaining only carriers of Saul’s command.

nevu'ah: Prophecy; prophetic utterance.

נְבוּאָה

The shared root links what the messengers do to the utterance itself: they become part of the speech they encounter.

שָׁאוּל

Sha'ul

GROWS FROM

שאל

sha'al

To ask or request; ⁨שָׁאוּל⁩ carries the sense of “asked for” or “requested.”

Saul’s name carries the nature of the one asked for. Here, the asked-for ruler can send repeatedly, yet the prophetic speech does not answer to his command.

ALSO GROWS

sha'al: Ask; request.

שָׁאַל

The verb beneath Saul’s name sets the identity of the ruler beside the limits of what he can command.

she'elah: Request; petition.

שְׁאֵלָה

This branch echoes the name’s sense of being requested, while the verse shows that the sender’s request does not determine the messengers’ speech.

Prophetic utterance crosses the boundaries of who is expected to speak.

And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.
1 Samuel 10:6 · KJVSaul himself is drawn into prophetic speech, crossing the boundary between ruler and prophet.
And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.
Numbers 11:25 · KJVThe elders enter prophetic speech when the spirit rests upon them, extending the utterance to new speakers.
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 2:4 · KJVThe gathered assembly speaks as utterance is given, crossing the boundary between hearing and speaking.
And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.
Exodus 5:1 · KJV

The same root, ⁨שָׁלַח⁩ (shalach), underlies Saul’s sending of messengers and Pharaoh’s command to let the people go. Here, those sent do not remain instruments of the sender’s purpose; the shared root opens sending as release into a scene that changes their role.
