This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

Goliath’s sword survives its first owner: the weapon that carried his threat becomes the only blade David can take forward.

A weapon does not become harmless because it is wrapped or stored; this blade remains Goliath’s sword. Its history now sits within David’s reach, and the only available sword passes into the hands of the one who ended Goliath’s threat.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

A thing that once carried an enemy’s power is not forever bound to that enemy; here Goliath’s blade is now in David’s hand.

חֶרֶב

ḥerev

GROWS FROM

חָרַב

ḥ-r-b

To dry up, become desolate, or lay waste.

The word for sword belongs to a root associated with desolation; that destructive edge remains present even while the blade is wrapped. The same weapon moves from Goliath’s story into David’s hand, carrying its former violence into a new moment.

ALSO GROWS

ḥorbah: Desolation, ruin

חָרְבָּה

The same root names the devastation a sword can leave behind.

ḥarev: Dry, waste, desolate

חָרֵב

This branch carries the root’s image of what has been stripped or laid waste.

תְּנֶנָּה

tenennah

GROWS FROM

נָתַן

n-t-n

To give, set, or place.

“give” in this verse is tenennah. The Hebrew root holds giving and placing together: David receives the blade as something placed into his keeping. The handover is concrete custody of a weapon, not an abstract permission.

ALSO GROWS

mattanah: Gift, thing given

מַתָּנָה

The noun names what results from the same root’s act of giving; here what is given is a real sword.

mattan: Gift, present

מַתָּן

This related form again links giving with an object transferred into someone else’s possession.

When the need narrows, the next step comes through what is already within reach.

And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.
Exodus 4:2 · KJVThe next movement begins with the object already in Moses’ hand.
And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.
2 Kings 4:2 · KJVThe household’s remaining oil becomes the material provision for what follows.
There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?
John 6:9 · KJVThe available food is the starting point for feeding the crowd.
Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.
1 Samuel 17:51 · KJV

The word for “sword” is ⁨חֶרֶב⁩ (ḥerev) in both verses. Here David takes the very blade he used against Goliath; the weapon’s history does not disappear when it changes hands.
