This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

The Hebrew calls Nebuzar-adan “chief of the slaughterers,” then says he “made them go”: custody here is movement under a slaughterer’s power.

The line places you beside people reduced to “these”: taken by a royal officer and led before Babylon’s king. The Hebrew keeps the motion concrete, he takes them, then makes them go, while their voices, consent, and fate stay outside the sentence. That spare grammar leaves the transfer stark.

רַב־טַבָּחִים

rab-ṭabbaḥîm

GROWS FROM

טבח

to slaughter; a butcher or slaughterer

“captain of the guard” in this verse is rab-ṭabbaḥîm. The Hebrew title literally means “chief of the slaughterers,” though it serves as a court title for the royal guard. The root keeps slaughter audible within the machinery of custody: the official who takes and leads these people bears a title formed from the language of killing.

ALSO GROWS

ṭabbaḥ: butcher; slaughterer

טַבָּח

The plural ⁨טַבָּחִים⁩ (ṭabbaḥîm) in the title names the officer’s group from this agent word.

ṭebaḥ: slaughter; killing

טֶבַח

This noun names the act behind the title’s root and sharpens what “guard” leaves implicit.

וַיּוֹלִכֵם

wayyōliḵēm

GROWS FROM

הלך

to go; to walk

“brought them” in this verse is wayyōliḵēm. The verb is causative: he makes them go to the king. The movement belongs to the captor, and beneath the smooth English “brought” the Hebrew keeps that imposed motion visible.

ALSO GROWS

hālaḵ: to go; to walk

הָלַךְ

This is the basic movement carried by the root in the verse.

hōlīḵ: to lead; to cause to go

הוֹלִיךְ

This causative form makes another person the one directing the movement, as the officer does here.

Power makes captivity a chain of custody: people are seized, moved, and handed to the authority that claims them.

Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt.
Genesis 37:28 · KJVJoseph is lifted from confinement, sold, and brought to Egypt; other people determine each next handoff.
And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.
Matthew 27:2 · KJVThe bound Jesus is led away and delivered to a governor, repeating the passage’s chain of capture, movement, and handoff.
And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.
Acts 12:4 · KJVPeter is apprehended, imprisoned, and delivered to soldiers; power passes his body from one custody to another.
And when Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the ruler of his house, Bring these men home, and slay, and make ready; for these men shall dine with me at noon.
Genesis 43:16 · KJV

Joseph’s order “slay, and make ready” uses the ⁨טבח⁩ (ṭ-b-ḥ) root found in “captain of the guard.” The same root names both the slaughterer and the act of slaughter, while here it also serves the preparation of a meal.
