Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;

King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
A calling is pictured as household stewardship: what God gives to one is directed through that person for others, until the word comes to fullness.
THE MEANING
What is entrusted is directed toward others, and its work is to bring God’s word to its full measure. The one who carries the gift is a steward of what is given, not its owner.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
This undoes the belief that what is given to you is yours to keep: the verse frames it as an entrustment with a purpose beyond you.
THE ROOT
οἰκονομίαν
oikonomian
GROWS FROM
οἶκος (oikos, house) + νέμω (nemō, manage or distribute)
Household management; stewardship or administration.
“dispensation” in this verse is oikonomian. The word carries the shape of household responsibility: something entrusted to be managed for another’s good. The phrase “given to me for you” makes that direction plain, the stewardship passes through one person toward others.
ALSO GROWS
oikonomos: Steward, household manager.
οἰκονόμος
This names the person who carries the responsibility that οἰκονομία describes.
oikonomeō: To manage or administer a household.
οἰκονομέω
This verb shows that stewardship is active care and administration, not merely something received.
πληρῶσαι
plērōsai
GROWS FROM
πληρόω
plēroō
To fill, make full, bring to completion.
“fulfil” in this verse is plērōsai. The verb holds the image of filling something to completion. Here, God’s word is what comes to fullness through the entrusted service.
ALSO GROWS
plērēs: Full, complete.
πλήρης
It shares the root’s sense of reaching fullness.
plērōma: Fullness, full measure.
πλήρωμα
It names the state of fullness toward which the work of πληρόω moves.
THE PATTERN
What God entrusts is made fruitful through service directed toward others.
And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone. To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.THE THREAD
For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.The Greek word οἰκονομία (oikonomia, stewardship) appears in both verses. Here, the gospel is described as committed to its bearer, opening “given to me for you” as a responsibility received and carried onward.
