King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
The same way carries the prince both into the gate and back out of it.
THE MEANING
The prince enters by the porch of the gate and leaves by that same way. Entry and exit belong to one continuous passage, so the threshold carries movement in both directions.
THE ROOT
דֶּרֶךְ
derek
GROWS FROM
דרך
d-r-k
To tread or step along; a way is a track made by movement.
The verse repeats this word-root for the prince’s entry and exit. A way here is more than a direction: it is the same traversed path, carrying him through the threshold both in and out.
ALSO GROWS
darak: To tread, step, or walk over.
דָּרַךְ
This verb shows the motion held inside derek: a way is something feet travel.
derek: A road, path, or way of proceeding.
דֶּרֶךְ
The repeated word makes the prince’s entrance and departure one continuous route.
THE PATTERN
Entry and exit can remain held within one way.
Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.THE THREAD
For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.Psalm 1 uses the same Hebrew word, derek (דֶּרֶךְ), for a way of life. In Ezekiel, it names the prince’s traversed route; here, the same root lets you see a life-path as a way actually walked.
