What Does Leviticus 25:31 Mean in the King James?
But the houses of the villages which have no wall round about them shall be counted as the fields of the country: they may be redeemed, and they shall go out in the jubile.

King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
An unwalled house is counted as open land, so its claim already carries an appointed exit.
THE MEANING
A dwelling without a wall around it stands in the order of the open field: it remains redeemable, and at Jubilee it goes out from the claim over it. Release is built into its status; being called a house does not make the claim permanent.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The verse undoes the belief that a claim over a dwelling must last as long as someone can hold it: this house’s status places a limit on that claim.
THE ROOT
גְּאֻלָּה
ge'ullah
GROWS FROM
גאל
To reclaim or redeem; גְּאֻלָּה names the act or status of redemption.
The Hebrew uses the noun “redemption” where English says the house “may be redeemed.” It presents reclaiming as part of the house’s standing: the claim over it can be released.
ALSO GROWS
ga'al: To redeem or reclaim.
גָּאַל
The verb shows redemption as an act of taking back what has been held or sold.
go'el: A redeemer, one who reclaims.
גֹּאֵל
This branch makes visible the person who can take up the reclaiming work named in the verse.
יֵצֵא
yetse
GROWS FROM
יצא
To go out, emerge, or depart.
“go out” in this verse is yetse. The house’s release is expressed as an exit. The same root can describe going out and being brought out, so Jubilee marks a change in what holds the house, not merely a change of price.
ALSO GROWS
yetzi'ah: Going out; an exit.
יְצִיאָה
This noun makes the movement in “they shall go out” explicit: the claim reaches its boundary and the house exits it.
hotsi: To bring out or cause to go out.
הוֹצִיא
This causative form shows the same root describing an exit brought about, echoing the release that Jubilee provides.
THE PATTERN
A claim that holds someone or something in bondage is not final; release opens a passage into freedom.
And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family. The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.THE THREAD
For thus saith the LORD, Ye have sold yourselves for nought; and ye shall be redeemed without money. The same גאל root appears in Isaiah’s “ye shall be redeemed” and in the village house’s redemption. In both, the condition of being sold does not get the final word: what is held can be reclaimed.
