What Does Mark 12:7 Mean in the King James?
But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours.

King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
They imagine killing the heir will make the inheritance theirs, while Greek binds “heir” and “inheritance” in one word family.
THE MEANING
The verse exposes possession at its sharpest: the tenants treat the heir as the obstacle between them and what they want. They speak their plan plainly, turning his death into a claim of ownership. The verse speaks now wherever desire recasts what belongs to another as something available through erasing them.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The lie is that removing the rightful heir makes the inheritance rightfully yours.
THE ROOT
κληρονόμος
klēronomos
GROWS FROM
κληρ- (from κλῆρος)
An allotted share or portion; by extension, the share received as an inheritance.
Greek places “heir” (κληρονόμος, klēronomos) and “inheritance” (κληρονομία, klēronomia) in the same word family, shaped around an allotted share. The tenants imagine they can sever the heir from the portion and make the portion theirs, but the words keep their relation visible even as their plan tries to erase it.
ALSO GROWS
klēros: A lot or allotted share.
κλῆρος
It shows the inheritance as a portion assigned to someone, not simply an object available to whoever can seize it.
klēronomia: Inheritance; an allotted possession.
κληρονομία
It is the possession the tenants expect to claim after killing the one designated to receive it.
klēronomeō: To inherit or receive an allotted share.
κληρονομέω
The verb keeps the act of receiving tied to the inheritance itself, rather than to the tenants’ act of taking.
THE PATTERN
When a person’s claim confronts a grasp for control, the person can be cast as an obstacle to remove.
Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams. And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned, and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give thee for money: for Naboth is not alive, but dead.Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:THE THREAD
Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;Hebrews calls the Son κληρονόμος (klēronomos), the same Greek word used for “heir” in Mark, and says he is appointed heir of all things. Mark’s tenants treat that designation as something they can erase by killing him; Hebrews makes the appointment explicit.
