But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

THE KEY
Her fear does not make what she knows less true; the whole truth becomes audible even while she trembles.
THE MEANING
Fear and trembling can coexist with clear knowing; they do not erase what you recognize has happened within you. The truth becomes speakable as you bring the whole account into the open.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It dissolves the belief that fear cancels knowing: she is afraid and trembling, and still knows what has happened within her.
THE ROOT
ἀλήθειαν
alētheian
GROWS FROM
ληθ-
lēth-
Hiddenness; what escapes notice, with the word’s initial privative element forming “not hidden.”
The Greek ἀλήθεια (alētheia, “truth”) belongs to a word family often linked with what escapes notice; the related verb ἀληθεύω (alētheuō, “speak truthfully”) makes truth active in speech. Here, what she knows inwardly moves into words spoken openly.
ALSO GROWS
lanthanō: To escape notice; to remain hidden.
λανθάνω
Its shared word-family evokes what has remained unseen; she now tells what has happened within her.
alētheuō: To speak truthfully; to tell the truth.
ἀληθεύω
This related verb makes the connection between truth and speech explicit: she tells him the whole truth.
THE PATTERN
What is known within comes into the open when it is spoken without concealment.
I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.THE THREAD
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.John uses the same Greek word ἀλήθεια (alētheia, “truth”) and joins it to freedom. Mark lets you see truth as a whole account spoken aloud, even through fear.
