This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

Every comparison marks resemblance without granting identity: these creatures carry the forms of horses, crowns, and human faces while remaining locusts.

You encounter the locusts through familiar forms: battle-ready horses, gold-like crowns, and human faces. Yet the verse holds them as locusts, leaving their borrowed likenesses and their terror together in view.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

A familiar or human-looking form does not make a thing what it resembles.

ὁμοιώματα

homoiōmata

GROWS FROM

ὁμοιό-

likeness, being or appearing alike

The Greek repeats this word family in “likenesses” and in the comparisons to horses and crowns. English spreads that echo across “shapes” and “like,” but the repeated Greek keeps resemblance at the center: these are locusts described through forms they recall.

ALSO GROWS

hómoios: like, similar

ὅμοιος

This adjective describes the locusts as like horses and the crowns as like gold, repeating the root family’s emphasis on resemblance.

homoióō: to make like, liken, compare

ὁμοιόω

This verb names the act of describing one thing through comparison with another, the mechanism running through the verse’s layered images.

Visionary images use familiar likenesses to make the unfamiliar perceptible while keeping resemblance distinct from identity.

Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man.
Ezekiel 1:5 · KJVThe vision presents living creatures through a human likeness while still naming them as distinct beings.
The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man’s heart was given to it.
Daniel 7:4 · KJVThe vision makes a creature legible through the forms of a lion, an eagle, and a man without reducing it to any one of them.
And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
Revelation 1:13 · KJVThe figure is revealed through a human likeness, again letting resemblance carry the vision without erasing its mystery.
And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
Revelation 1:13 · KJV

Both verses use forms from the Greek ⁨ὁμοιό-⁩ family to describe what is “like” something familiar. In Revelation 9 the likenesses make the locusts’ appearance unsettling; here, likeness gives the figure among the candlesticks a recognizable human form.
