This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

Hebrew uses the same root for “Satan” and “to resist,” so the one standing against Joshua is doing exactly what his name says.

You can stand before what is set apart while accusation takes its place against you. The opposition is real, yet it does not rename the one it addresses: Joshua’s name carries “YHWH delivers.”

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The lie this undoes is that an accusation standing beside you has the authority to define who you are.

הַשָּׂטָן

ha-satan

GROWS FROM

שׂטן

To oppose, accuse, or act as an adversary.

“Satan; to resist” in this verse is ha-satan. The verse calls him ⁨הַשָּׂטָן⁩, “the Adversary,” then uses the same root as a verb: he stands there to oppose Joshua. English separates the title from the action; Hebrew makes the opposition the very thing he is doing.

ALSO GROWS

satan: Adversary; one who opposes.

שָׂטָן

The noun names the one standing at Joshua’s right hand.

sitnah: Accusation or hostility.

שִׂטְנָה

This related word shows how opposition can take the form of a charge against someone.

יְהוֹשֻׁעַ

Yehoshua

GROWS FROM

ישע

Deliver, rescue, bring out into open space.

Joshua’s name carries the sense “YHWH delivers.” The scene holds that name beside the Adversary’s opposition, placing accusation and deliverance in the same frame.

ALSO GROWS

yasha: To deliver or rescue.

יָשַׁע

The name’s root speaks of being brought out from what constricts.

yeshuah: Deliverance.

יְשׁוּעָה

This noun makes explicit the deliverance carried within Joshua’s name.

The Adversary’s role is to stand against and accuse the person before God.

Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.
Psalm 109:6 · KJVThe same image places an adversary at a person’s right hand, where opposition takes its stand.
Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?
Job 1:9 · KJVThe Adversary challenges the integrity of the person being discussed before God.
And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
Revelation 12:10 · KJVThe accuser’s role is named directly: bringing accusations against people before God.
Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.
Psalm 109:6 · KJV

Psalm 109 gives nearly the same picture: an adversary standing at someone’s right hand. In Hebrew, the shared root connects the figure beside Joshua with the act of opposing him.
