This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

The word “residue” names what remains, and the promise is that what remains no longer meets God on the terms of the former days.

What remains of you is not sealed inside the conditions that formed it; the verse speaks of God’s relation to the surviving part as changing now. The former days do not define the only way your present can be met.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The false belief this undoes is that whatever survives must continue under the same conditions as before.

שְׁאֵרִית

she’erit

GROWS FROM

שאר

sha’ar

To remain, be left.

English “residue” can sound like what is merely left over, but ⁨שְׁאֵרִית⁩ (she’erit) names the portion that remains. The root lets the sentence rest on persistence, then changes the conditions of that persistence: the remnant is not met as it was in the former days.

ALSO GROWS

nish’ar: Is left; remains.

נִשְׁאָר

The verse’s residue is not a separate kind of person; it is the part that remains.

she’ar: Remainder; rest.

שְׁאָר

This root-family word names what is still there after loss, illuminating the people addressed as the surviving portion.

God’s present action can change what the past seemed to make permanent.

Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Isaiah 43:19 · KJVGod’s action opens a new way in the very place where the old conditions seemed to rule.
And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
Revelation 21:5 · KJVThe declaration that all things become new reaches beyond what the former days made seem permanent.
The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.
Isaiah 10:21 · KJV

The same Hebrew root ⁨שאר⁩ (sha’ar, “remain, be left”) names both Zechariah’s “residue” and Isaiah’s “remnant.” Isaiah lets what remains move toward God, so surviving does not have to mean staying stranded in the old condition.
