This verse in the King James

King James wording
Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

The day of revelation does not create the Son of Man; it uncovers him.

The verse places the decisive change in what becomes visible: the Son of Man is uncovered into view. What is hidden from sight can be present before it is revealed.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It loosens the belief that what is not yet visible is not yet real: revelation is an uncovering.

ἀποκαλύπτεται

apokalyptetai

GROWS FROM

καλύπτω

kalyptō

To cover or conceal; with apo, away from the cover, the verb means to uncover or disclose. Here, apokalyptetai means “is revealed” or “is uncovered.”

“uncovered” in this verse is apokalyptetai. The Greek verb carries the image of a cover being removed. The Son of Man is revealed when what is concealed becomes perceptible; the day marks that disclosure.

ALSO GROWS

kalyptō: To cover or conceal

καλύπτω

This is the root image inside “revealed”: what is seen had been covered.

apokalypsis: Uncovering, revelation

ἀποκάλυψις

This noun names the same movement from concealment into view.

kalymma: A covering or veil

κάλυμμα

The veil makes the concealed image concrete: revelation is its removal.

What is hidden can be uncovered and brought into view.

For there is nothing covered that will not be uncovered, and nothing hidden that will not be known.
Luke 12:2 · SDVThe same uncovering language says that what is covered does not remain concealed.
He uncovers the deep and hidden things. He knows what is in the darkness, and the light rests with him.
Daniel 2:22 · SDVSecret things held in darkness are brought into the light.
Therefore, judge nothing before its season, until the Lord comes, who will light up the hidden things of darkness, and will make visible the plans of the hearts. And then the praise will come to each one from God.
1 Corinthians 4:5 · SDVThe hidden contents of darkness and the heart are made manifest.
For there is nothing covered that will not be uncovered, and nothing hidden that will not be known.
Luke 12:2 · SDV

Luke 12:2 uses the same Greek verb for “revealed,” rooted in the image of uncovering. It opens Luke 17:30 further: the day is the moment when what was covered becomes visible.
