This verse in the King James

King James wording
And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden.

The verb translated “suffered” means “let”: Jesus deliberately narrows the threshold to three companions and the girl’s parents.

The scene holds a child’s death and the possibility of her return within a closely bounded circle. Even here, access is deliberate: Jesus decides who crosses the threshold.

GROWS FROM

ἀφίημι

aphíēmi

To let go or send away; by extension, to allow or permit.

“let” in this verse is aphēken. The same verb can mean allowing someone through, leaving something behind, or releasing a debt. Here it makes the boundary an active choice: Jesus lets these few enter.

ALSO GROWS

forgive: Release or remit a debt or offense.

In Luke 11:4, forms of this verb mean “forgive”; its sense of letting go also carries the idea of releasing a claim.

leave: Go away from or leave behind.

In Matthew 4:20, the disciples leave their nets using a form of this verb, showing its wider range of letting something go.

Scripture often places restoration inside a deliberately bounded space before its outcome is revealed.

So he went in, and shut the door on the two of them, and prayed to the LORD.
2 Kings 4:33 · SDVElisha shuts the door before the child’s restoration, holding the moment apart from the crowd.
But Peter cast them all outside, and set his knees down, and prayed. And turning to the body, he said, Tabitha, stand up. And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up.
Acts 9:40 · SDVPeter sends everyone out before Tabitha rises, and the restoration becomes visible afterward.
But Jesus said, Let the little children come, and do not hold them back from coming to me, for of such is the governance of the heavens.
Matthew 19:14 · SDV

Both verses use forms of ⁨ἀφίημι⁩ (aphíēmi), meaning “let” or “allow,” rendered as “suffer” in the KJV. Here Jesus limits who enters; in Matthew he opens the way for children, the same verb governs opposite movements at the threshold.
