This verse in the King James

King James wording
But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.

The disciples’ boundary cannot contain Jesus’ nature: acting in his name expresses a bond that makes quick contempt difficult.

Jesus sees that someone doing a powerful work in his name cannot lightly speak evil of him. That bond is real even when the person is outside the disciples’ circle.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The false belief this undoes is that only those who follow our circle can act in Jesus’ nature.

ὄνομα

onoma

GROWS FROM

ὀνοματ-

onomat-

Name or designation; by extension, reputation, character, and nature.

“in my nature” in this verse is onoma. “In my name” carries more than attaching Jesus’ name to an act: it can point to the character expressed through that act. Jesus treats the work as evidence of a bond with him, so the disciples’ group boundary does not define who can act in his nature.

ALSO GROWS

onomazō: To name or call by name.

ὀνομάζω

This branch links a name with the act of identifying or speaking of someone, echoing how the disciples speak about who belongs to Jesus’ circle.

onomastos: Named, renowned, or well known.

ὀνομαστός

This branch carries the sense of a name as a person’s known character or reputation, the deeper sense Jesus recognizes in the man’s action.

The character behind a name is recognized through the work and speech it produces.

And Moses said to him, "Are you burning for my sake? Would that all the LORD's people were prophets, and that the LORD would set his breath upon them!"
Numbers 11:29 · SDVMoses refuses to treat prophetic work outside his own circle as a threat and wishes the gift were wider.
Then Peter said, Silver and gold I have none, but what I have I give you. In the nature of Jesus the Anointed One of Nazareth, rise up and walk.
Acts 3:6 · SDVThe name of Jesus is spoken as the source under which healing is enacted.
So I make known to you that no one speaking in the breath of God says, Jesus is accursed, and no one is able to say, Jesus is Lord, except in the Set-Apart Breath.
1 Corinthians 12:3 · SDVSpeech about Jesus reveals the spirit shaping it, just as the work in Mark reveals a bond with him.
Then Peter said, Silver and gold I have none, but what I have I give you. In the nature of Jesus the Anointed One of Nazareth, rise up and walk.
Acts 3:6 · SDV

Acts uses the same Greek word, ⁨ὄνομα⁩ (onoma, name), when Peter tells the man to rise. There, the name is joined to the healing action; here, Jesus recognizes that kind of action as a bond with his nature, even beyond the disciples’ circle.
