King James wording
King James Version
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.THE KEY
Flourishing belongs to those who make wholeness, because peacemaking is the family resemblance by which God’s children are recognized.
THE MEANING
Flourishing names the life of the person making wholeness now. This is more than quiet or the absence of conflict: it takes shape in work that restores what division has pulled apart. In that lived resemblance, the reader is recognized as God’s child.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It undoes the belief that peace is passivity: the verse names the maker of wholeness, not merely the one who avoids disturbance.
THE ROOT
εἰρηνοποιοί
eirēnopoioi
GROWS FROM
εἰρήνη (eirēnē, wholeness) + ποιέω (poieō, make or do)
A compound meaning to make wholeness.
“makers of wholeness” in this verse is eirēnopoioi. The word joins wholeness to making: peace here is something brought into being, not simply the quiet left when conflict stops. The verse links this active work with the recognizable nature of God’s children.
ALSO GROWS
eirēnopoieō: To make peace or bring about wholeness.
εἰρηνοποιέω
This same word family appears in Colossians 1:20, where making peace is joined to reconciling all things.
eirēnikos: Characterized by peace or tending toward it.
εἰρηνικός
James 3:17 calls wisdom from above peaceable, linking the making of wholeness with the character of divine wisdom.
THE PATTERN
Wholeness takes shape through active making, and this work bears the mark of God’s family.
And the work of alignment will be wholeness, and the service of alignment will be stillness and trust for the ages. And the fruit of alignment is sown in wholeness for those who make wholeness. So then let us pursue the things that move toward wholeness, and the things that build one another up.THE THREAD
And, having made wholeness through the blood of his cross, through him to bring all things back to himself, whether the things on the earth or the things in the heavens.“Having made peace” translates εἰρηνοποιήσας (eirēnopoiesas, having made peace), from the same word family as “peacemakers.” The connection reveals wholeness as the work of reconciliation, extending across all things.
