This verse in the King James

King James wording
And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount.

The office survives its bearer by passing as clothing onto the next body.

A life can end while its entrusted work remains visible and embodied in another. Aaron dies on the mountain; the garments are already on Eleazar, and Moses and Eleazar descend. The verse holds succession and death together without softening either.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The lie is that a role vanishes when the person who carries it dies. Here Aaron dies, and Eleazar carries the garments forward.

וַיַּלְבֵּשׁ

wayyalbesh

GROWS FROM

לבשׁ

l-b-sh

Wear or be clothed; in a causative form, clothe someone.

“clothed with them” in this verse is wayyalbesh. The verb is causative: Moses does not merely place cloth nearby; he clothes Eleazar with what Aaron wore. The root keeps wearing and clothing in one family, so succession becomes visible as one bearer puts on the garments after another.

ALSO GROWS

lavash: To wear or be clothed.

לָבַשׁ

This is the act Aaron’s garments move through as they pass to Eleazar.

levush: Clothing or garment.

לְבוּשׁ

It names the covering that makes the transfer of the priestly role visible.

malbush: Garment or apparel.

מַלְבּוּשׁ

It keeps the same root’s idea of clothing as something worn by a person.

בְּנוֹ

beno

GROWS FROM

בנה

b-n-h

Build, build up.

The word for son belongs to the same lexical family as the verb for building. Kinship carries the sense of what is built forward: Eleazar receives both the garment and the line of service while Aaron’s life ends.

ALSO GROWS

banah: To build or build up.

בָּנָה

The verb gives the family of son its image of what is built onward.

binyan: A building or structure.

בִּנְיָן

It carries the root’s sense of something formed and established over time.

ben: Son.

בֵּן

Eleazar is the next generation who receives the garments and continues the line of service.

The bearer dies while the office passes to another through a visible act of entrustment.

The set-apart garments of Aaron are his sons' after him, to be anointed in them, and to fill their hands in them.
Exodus 29:29 · SDVThe garments are named as belonging to Aaron’s sons after him, making succession part of the vestment’s purpose.
And Joshua the son of Nun was filled with the breath of wisdom, for Moses had leaned his hands upon him; and the children of Israel heard him and responded, doing as the LORD commanded Moses.
Deuteronomy 34:9 · SDVLeadership is visibly entrusted to Joshua through Moses’ hands, so authority continues in a new bearer.
And they truly were many priests, for death held them back from remaining.
Hebrews 7:23 · SDVDeath prevents one priest from continuing, so priestly service passes through many bearers.
The son who is priest in his place clothes himself in them seven days, when he comes into the tent of meeting to serve in the set-apart place.
Exodus 29:30 · SDV

This verse describes the same transfer enacted in Numbers: the son puts on the garments and serves in his predecessor’s stead. The shared clothing root makes succession a bodily act, not an invisible title change.
