This verse in the King James

King James wording
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

Before separation becomes a vow, it arrives as a spoken word to the one whose name carries the imprint of being drawn out.

Here, a set-apart life reaches you first as an address: the LORD speaks, and Moses, the name linked with being drawn out, stands at the threshold of what the word will disclose. Before the vow takes shape in action, it exists as a word received.

וַיְדַבֵּר

wayĕdabbēr

GROWS FROM

ד־ב־ר

To speak; the root also gives the word or matter spoken.

“spake” in this verse is wayĕdabbēr. The root holds the act of speaking together with a word or matter: utterance and what it carries share one seed. The vow that follows is not detached information; the spoken word is itself the matter from which the vow takes shape.

ALSO GROWS

dābār: Word, matter, thing

דָּבָר

The same root that names the speaking also names what is spoken, joining the address to the reality it brings into view.

dibbēr: He spoke

דִּבֶּר

This same verb root appears in the next verse’s command to speak, carrying the address forward into the vow’s specific form.

מֹשֶׁה

Mōsheh

GROWS FROM

משׁה

To draw out.

The verse places the divine word before Moses, whose name is linked in Exodus 2:10 to being drawn out of water. Psalm 18:16 uses the same root for being drawn out of many waters, so the name carries an image of emergence that reaches beyond one moment.

ALSO GROWS

māšāh: To draw out

מָשָׁה

Exodus 2:10 connects Moses’s name with the act of drawing him out of the water.

yĕmaššēnî: He drew me out

יְמַשֵּׁנִי

Psalm 18:16 uses this form for being drawn out of many waters, echoing the image carried by Moses’s name.

A word from God brings a new form of life into view by addressing a hearer.

And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.
Genesis 1:3 · SDVA spoken word brings a new reality into view.

Exodus 3:4 · SDVThe voice addresses Moses by name, and a new path opens through a received answer.

John 10:27 · SDVHearing the voice is joined to being known and following, so address begins relationship and movement.
He stretches out from the height, takes hold of me, and draws me out of many waters.
Psalm 18:16 · SDV

Moses’s name is tied in Exodus 2:10 to the verb “I drew him out”; Psalm 18:16 uses the same root as the speaker says he is drawn from many waters. The call in Numbers 6:1 reaches the one whose name already holds this image of being brought out.
