King James wording
King James Version
The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.THE KEY
Alignment makes the path straight, while wickedness becomes the cause of its own fall.
THE MEANING
When your life is aligned with what is right, your way becomes straight as you walk it. When you live through wickedness, that very wickedness becomes what brings you down. The verse presents direction and collapse as taking shape within the path you are living now.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It undoes the belief that a person’s collapse comes only from an outside sentence: here, the wicked person falls by his own wickedness.
THE ROOT
צְדָקָה
tsedaqah
GROWS FROM
צדק
ṣ-d-q
To be right, just, or aligned.
“Righteousness” carries the sense of alignment: a life in right relation. The verse links that alignment to a way made straight, so it describes direction taking shape, not just a status someone possesses.
ALSO GROWS
tsedeq: Justice, rightness, or what is rightly ordered.
צֶדֶק
It shows the alignment in the verse as right order, not merely private goodness.
tsaddiq: A just or righteous person; one who is aligned.
צַדִּיק
It echoes “the perfect,” describing the person whose way is being made straight.
תְּיַשֵּׁר
teyasher
GROWS FROM
ישר
y-sh-r
To be straight, level, or upright.
“makes his way straight” in this verse is teyasher. The verb translated “direct” means to make straight. Tzedek and yashar are distinct roots, but the verse joins alignment to straightness: what is aligned gives the way its direction.
ALSO GROWS
yashar: Straight or upright.
יָשָׁר
It names the quality expressed by the way that is being directed.
yosher: Uprightness or straightness.
יֹשֶׁר
It connects the straight path to the integrity of the person walking it.
רִשְׁעָה
rish'ah
GROWS FROM
רשע
r-sh-ʿ
To be wicked or guilty; wrongdoing.
The verse says the wicked person falls “by his own wickedness.” The wording makes the wrongdoing part of the cause of the fall: the collapse grows from within the path being lived.
ALSO GROWS
rasha: A wicked or guilty person.
רָשָׁע
It is the word used for the person who falls in the verse.
resha: Wickedness or guilt.
רֶשַׁע
It names the wrongdoing that the verse presents as the cause of the fall.
THE PATTERN
An inward life aligned with rightness takes shape as a straight path, while wickedness folds back as the cause of its own collapse.
The way of the aligned is straight, and you level and straighten the track of the aligned. He turns back my living soul; he leads me in the tracks of alignment for the sake of his nature. And make straight tracks for your feet, so that what limps may not be turned aside, but rather be healed.THE THREAD
In all your ways, perceive him, and he straightens your paths. The same Hebrew root, ישר (yashar, “straight” or “upright”), appears behind “direct” in both verses. Proverbs 3:6 shows that straightening in the midst of all your ways, opening this verse’s alignment as a path taking shape now.
