This verse in the King James

King James wording
There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

The word translated against pictures a strategy set in front of the LORD, and says none can become his rival.

No human wisdom, discernment, or strategy can establish itself as a final counterweight to the LORD. Even a plan that looks complete remains before the One it cannot overturn.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that enough intelligence or planning can put a person beyond the LORD’s authority.

לְנֶגֶד

leneged

GROWS FROM

נגד

n-g-d

To be in front or made visible; in derived forms, to declare or make known.

“facing” in this verse is leneged. The phrase does not picture counsel hidden away from the LORD, but positioned in front of him as opposition. What claims to stand against him is already within view.

ALSO GROWS

neged: In front of, opposite, against.

נֶגֶד

This branch makes opposition a position taken in front of the LORD, not a power beyond his sight.

nagad: To tell, declare, or make known.

נָגַד

The same consonants carry the sense of bringing something into view; the counsel set against the LORD is not concealed from him.

עֵצָה

etsah

GROWS FROM

יעץ

y-ʿ-ṣ

To advise or deliberate.

Counsel is a formed plan, something advised and set in motion. The verse does not deny that people plan; it denies that their plans can become a rival counsel to the LORD.

ALSO GROWS

yaats: To advise or consult.

יָעַץ

The verb shows counsel as something people form through deliberation, yet deliberation does not give it standing against the LORD.

yoets: Adviser or counselor.

יוֹעֵץ

The adviser gives shape to a plan; the verse places even that human counsel beneath the LORD.

תְּבוּנָה

tevunah

GROWS FROM

בין

b-y-n

To discern or distinguish; to perceive differences.

Understanding carries the work of discerning between things. Even the sharpest distinctions do not produce a perspective from which the LORD can be overruled.

ALSO GROWS

bin: To understand or discern.

בִּין

This verb names the act of making distinctions, a real human capacity that still cannot set itself above the LORD.

bein: Between or among.

בֵּין

The related form points to the space of distinction; human understanding can sort what lies between things without becoming a counter authority to the LORD.

Human plans may multiply, but none can overturn the LORD’s purpose.

Many plans are in the heart of a man, but the counsel of the LORD, it will stand.
Proverbs 19:21 · SDVMany human plans arise, but the LORD’s counsel is the one that remains standing.
Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient days the things not yet made, saying, My counsel will stand, and all that I delight in I will make.
Isaiah 46:10 · SDVThe LORD’s purpose stands because its reach includes what is not yet done.
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, He catches the wise in their own craftiness.
1 Corinthians 3:19 · SDVHuman wisdom cannot establish itself as the measure by which God is judged.
Many plans are in the heart of a man, but the counsel of the LORD, it will stand.
Proverbs 19:21 · SDV

Both verses use ⁨עֵצָה⁩ (etsah, counsel). Proverbs 19:21 makes the contrast plain: human plans multiply, while the LORD’s counsel stands; this verse shows that those plans cannot become its rival.
