This verse in the King James

King James wording
Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;

Another person’s household may gain weight in the world’s eyes without their wealth becoming a threat to you.

When another person grows rich and their household’s weight increases, the sight can press on you as if it changes your own standing. This verse loosens that pressure: their increase is real, but it does not make their prosperity a verdict on your worth or security.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

Your security does not shrink when someone else’s wealth or status grows.

כְּבוֹד

kevod

GROWS FROM

כבד

To be heavy or weighty.

The word translated “glory” carries the sense of weight: the household’s standing grows heavier in the world’s eyes. The verse names that increase without saying it has gained the power to define your standing.

ALSO GROWS

kāvēd: Heavy, weighty.

כָּבֵד

This basic sense reveals the physical weight held inside “glory”: the house’s prominence presses more heavily into view.

kibbēd: To honor, treat as weighty.

כִּבֵּד

This related verb shows how weight becomes social regard; a household’s increased “glory” is also increased importance in others’ eyes.

תִּירָא

tira

GROWS FROM

ירא

To fear or stand in awe.

“afraid” in this verse is tira. The command addresses the fear that another person’s rising wealth can awaken in you. The root also reaches toward awe, linking fear to the weight you grant what stands before you.

ALSO GROWS

yirʾah: Fear or awe.

יִרְאָה

The noun shows that the verse is speaking to the inner response stirred by another person’s visible increase.

noraʾ: Fearsome, awe-inspiring.

נוֹרָא

This related form describes what seems to command fear or awe, illuminating how wealth can appear more powerful than it is.

Visible wealth can grow without becoming the measure of a life’s security or worth.

Riches do not profit on the day of overflowing, but alignment snatches from death.
Proverbs 11:4 · SDVWealth can be substantial and still fail to secure what matters most.
As he comes from his mother's womb, naked he turns back to go as he comes. He lifts nothing from his toil that he can go away with in his hand.
Ecclesiastes 5:15 · SDVWhat a person accumulates does not become lasting possession or protection.
And he said to them, Watch, and guard yourselves against grasping, for a person's life does not lie in the overflow of what they hold.
Luke 12:15 · SDVThe abundance surrounding a person does not determine the measure of that person’s life.
For in his dying he takes nothing, and his weight does not go down after him.
Psalm 49:17 · SDV

The next verse repeats the same word, ⁨כָּבוֹד⁩ (kavod), “weight” or “glory.” The house’s weight may increase now, but it does not travel with its owner.
