This verse in the King James

King James wording
For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.

Wild creatures and human-kept herds fall under the same prior claim: both are already God’s.

The creatures beyond your reach and the herds you can count are already God’s. What is untamed and what is managed both belong within a wider claim that precedes human possession.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that what humans possess is ultimately self-owned: even the cattle on the hills are named as God’s.

חַיָּה

chayyah

GROWS FROM

חיה

To live; to be alive.

“living thing” in this verse is chayyah. The word for “beast” grows from the root for living. The verse’s claim reaches beyond livestock people raise to life in the forest, beyond human keeping or control.

ALSO GROWS

chai: Alive; living.

חַי

The adjective shares the seed of “beast,” keeping the creature’s living nature visible in the word family.

chayyim: Life.

חַיִּים

The same root names life itself, linking the creatures in the verse to the language of life.

The world’s living abundance belongs to God before it becomes human possession or offering.

A Psalm of David. The earth is the LORD's, and what fills it; the inhabited world, and those who settle in it.
Psalm 24:1 · SDVThe claim expands from forest creatures and hill herds to the whole earth and everyone who lives in it.
But who am I, and what is my people, that we should hold the strength to offer so willingly after this sort? For all things come from you, and from your hand have we given to you.
1 Chronicles 29:14 · SDVEven what people offer is already received from God’s abundance.
For the earth is the Lord's, and what fills it.
1 Corinthians 10:26 · SDVThe verse carries the same claim into the present: the earth and all it contains belong to the Lord.
And God said, "Let the earth bring out living soul after its kind, cattle, creeping thing, and beast of the earth after its kind." And it was so.
Genesis 1:24 · SDV

The word “beast” grows from ⁨חיה⁩ (chayah), “to live,” the same root used in “living creature” in Genesis. The root links the animals named at creation with the creatures claimed as God’s in this verse.
