This verse in the King James

King James wording
Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.

The vine is not only carried out of constriction; it is brought into a place where it can take root.

You are pictured as a vine God brings out of Mitzrayim (⁨מִצְרַיִם⁩, Mitzrayim: the two narrows); the nations are driven out, and you are planted. Deliverance here is forceful: the vine is given ground to take root.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that release ends at getting out: the vine is brought out and deliberately planted.

תַּסִּיעַ

tassiaʿ

GROWS FROM

נסע

to set out, pull up, or journey

“carry” in this verse is tassiaʿ. The word carries the vine into motion: it is set out from Mitzrayim (⁨מִצְרַיִם⁩, Mitzrayim), the two narrows. English “brought” can sound like a simple transfer, while this root holds the sense of departure and journey.

ALSO GROWS

massaʿ: journey; a stage of travel

מַסָּע

It echoes the movement in the verse: the vine leaves one place and begins a journey toward another.

nesiʿah: travel; journeying

נְסִיעָה

This branch keeps the departure active, rather than making it sound like the vine was merely carried as an object.

וַתִּטָּעֶהָ

vattittaʿeha

GROWS FROM

נטע

to plant, set into the earth

“plant” in this verse is vattittaʿeha. The movement out ends in deliberate placement. The verse joins release from a narrow place to rootedness: the vine is not left traveling, but given ground.

ALSO GROWS

netiʿah: planting

נְטִיעָה

It names the act that turns the vine’s arrival into rooted life.

mattaʿ: plantation; planted growth

מַטָּע

It extends planting from a single act to the ground and growth that act establishes.

Deliverance carries life out of constriction and establishes it in ground where it can grow.

You shall bring them in and plant them in the mountain of your portion, the footing for you to settle in, which you made, O LORD; the set-apart place, O Lord, which your hands have established.
Exodus 15:17 · SDVThe movement reaches its aim when those brought in are planted in a place prepared for them.
Yet I planted you a choice vine, wholly a seed of truth. How then have you been overturned to me, into the wild shoots of a foreign vine?
Jeremiah 2:21 · SDVThe planted vine carries an identity and capacity for growth, even as this verse names its corruption.
I am the true vine, and my Father is the one who works the soil.
John 15:1 · SDVThe vine image continues as a living relationship between the vine and the one who tends it.
And the stock your right hand plants, and the son you make strong for yourself.
Psalm 80:15 · SDV

Verse 15 repeats ⁨נטע⁩ (nataʿ, to plant), the root behind “planted” here. Verse 8 begins the vine’s movement and planting; verse 15 shows the planted life still held in the work of the hand that established it.
