Selah Decoded Version The Selah Decoded Version renders what the Hebrew and Greek words meant to the people who first heard them.

This verse in the King James

King James wording
That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.

The repeated word “flesh” makes every title in the list end at the same exposed body.

Kings, captains, mighty men, riders, free and enslaved, small and great stand in the same terrible scene: their flesh is food for birds. The repeated word reduces the parade of titles to one vulnerable material. The image holds nothing back: power does not spare the body from this judgment.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The lie that rank, strength, or freedom can make a body untouchable dissolves here: all are named within the same consuming judgment.

σάρκας

sarkas

GROWS FROM

σαρκ-

sark-

Flesh; bodily substance.

“flesh” in this verse is sarkas. The same Greek stem recurs for kings, captains, warriors, horses, and every person in the list. Their titles differ, but the verse keeps bringing them back to the same exposed bodily material.

ALSO GROWS

sarkinos: Made of flesh; fleshy.

σάρκινος

This form carries the same stem for flesh as material, clarifying the stark physical force of the verse’s refrain.

sarkikos: Fleshly; pertaining to flesh.

σαρκικός

This related form shows how the stem also describes what belongs to the flesh; here the word stays concrete, naming the bodies caught in the judgment.

Earthly rank and strength cannot secure a body against death or exposure.

Yet a person who carries weight does not lodge; he is made like the beasts, and falls silent.
Psalm 49:12 · SDVHonor cannot keep a person from perishing; status gives way to shared bodily frailty.
And you, son of man, thus says the Lord GOD. Speak to every winged bird and to every beast of the field, "Gather yourselves and come, and gather yourselves all around to my slaughter, which I slaughter for you, a great slaughter upon the mountains of Israel, that you may eat flesh and drink blood."
Ezekiel 39:17 · SDVThe birds are summoned to consume flesh, establishing the same stark feast of judgment that appears in Revelation.
And the kings of the earth, and the great ones, and the chief captains, and the rich, and the strong, and every servant and every free one hide themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains.
Revelation 6:15 · SDVKings, mighty men, bond and free appear together, with no rank outside the scene of terror.
Ezekiel 39:17 · SDV

Ezekiel also presents the birds’ feast as a scene of judgment, with human bodies named as its food. That connection makes the repeated “flesh” part of a recurring scriptural image, not a passing detail.
